Why build a robot when you can sit in a waterhole, get many diseases and lose 30 lbs a la this photographer who got stunning pictures of lions: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/programmes/2010/03/100317_outlook_greg_dutoit.shtml

But yes, that is a formidable opponent you mention.
